Is Deep Research amazing or worthless?

By Michael Frank

We've spent the last week stress-testing the new "Deep Research" capabilities from OpenAI and Google. The consensus? It's great at processing language, but lacks the motivation, instinct, and persistence required for genuine intelligence work.

When a human analyst hits a dead end, they make a phone call. They check a different registry. They posit a new hypothesis. When an LLM agent hits a dead end (e.g. "page not found"), it hallucinates or gives up.

Use it for summarization. Use it for translation. But do not mistake it for investigation.

How Radiant Intel tracks this

Replace one-off research with source monitoring

Radiant Intel turns primary-source collection into persistent monitoring workflows, so analysts can follow the documents, registries, and policy changes behind a question instead of relying on static summaries.
